How do I repair a gash in an AC (air conditioning) junction box in my attic

Hello- In my attic, l have a junction box w/ a few AC ducts branching from

it.l discovered a 6'' straight gash on top of the junction box which is

this?Is it as simple as patching it w/ duct tape or should l do / use

1.) Don't use 'Duct' tape. Its good for almost everything else
